The Victims Assistance Unit of the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a Victim Assistance Volunteer Training for interested persons. This will be a thirty-three (33) hour class. The content will range from Death Notifications to Domestic Violence.
It takes a special person to assist others experiencing a crisis situation. You will be working with persons that have been exposed to extremely traumatic events. It takes someone with great empathy and good listening skills.
A thorough background check is done by the Sheriff’s Office. Upon completion of training, some may go through the Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Academy, and start a shadowing period with the Victim Assistance Unit.
The training period runs from September 14, 2010 through September 30, 2010. For further information please feel free to contact the Victim Assistance Unit at 772-978-6255.
