The national mobilization of the Click It or Ticket campaign for 2010 will begin on May 24th and continue through June 6th. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office will join other law enforcement agencies from across the country to enforce the seat belt laws that have been designed to save lives. Seat belts, when worn properly, can reduce the risk of a fatal injury from a vehicle crash by up to 60 percent. Daytime drivers and passengers seem to be more conscientious than those who venture out after dark when it comes to using a seat belt. Recent studies have indicated that nearly two-thirds of nighttime crash fatality victims were not wearing safety belts.
“The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office is committed to protecting the safety of our citizens. We will continue our due diligence to ensure that both drivers and passengers in Indian River County buckle up. The bottom line is that seat belts save lives.” Sheriff Deryl Loar said.
