Chief Deputy L. E. "Bud Spencer"
Chief Spencer has been with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office since July of 1980. He has served in various line and leadership positions throughout the Sheriff’s Office. Prior to that he worked with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy and spent three years with the Santa Rosa County School Board as an Elementary Educator.
Bud is married to Loma Spencer who is an Elementary Educator with the Indian River School System they have three children, Stephen (age 30) is the Systems Analysts for the Vero Beach Police Department. Josh (age26) is stationed in Okinawa Japan doing a tour of duty with the United States Marines and Bethany (age 22) is a dental assistant student at IRSC.
Bud holds an Associate Science Degree from Pensacola Junior College, a Bachelors Degree from The University of West Florida. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He has attended thousands of hours of specialized training. Bud is an active Adjunct Instructor with the Indian River State College, specializing in firearms, defensive tactics and ethical decision making. He has lectured to police and educational leaders on practical decision making principles. He also on the board of directors for Safe Space.
