Deryl Loar, Sheriff
Sheriff Deryl Loar is a third generation Floridian. He was born and raised in Central Florida where he attended and graduated from the Florida Public School System. Sheriff Loar holds a Bachelor Degree in Public Administration.
Sheriff Loar began his career in Law Enforcement with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) over twenty years ago as a State Trooper. He has been stationed from Jacksonville to Key West, giving him a broad base of experience. His tenure with the Florida Highway Patrol culminated with his being assigned to the Treasure coast as the District Commander from 1998-2008. He brought his law enforcement background into administration; and, in 2008, he was elected Sheriff of Indian River County.
Sheriff Loar and his wife Jennifer have been married for over twenty years and have lived in Indian River County for over ten years. They are raising their two boys in the public schools and attend the First United Methodist Church. Jennifer Loar is a Doctor of Optometry and is the proprietor of Oceanviews Optical in Sebastian.
