Don Smith, Law Enforcement Operations Captain
Captain Don Smith began his employment with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office in September of 1986 as a Deputy Sheriff. During his twenty-three year career he has also worked in the Special Operations , Judicial Services, and Crime Investigations Section. Within these sections he has worked in the Crime Suppression Unit, Field Training Program, DARE Program and as a firearms Instructor. Captain Smith has been an active member of the SWAT team for the last twenty years and has been the SWAT Commander for ten years.
Captain Smith is a graduate of Mercyhurst College with a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice. He is a member of the Treasure Coast Chiefs of Police and Sheriff’s Association, Florida SWAT Association, Region 5 Anti-Terrorism Task Force and Statewide Command Advisory Team.
Captain Smith is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has completed numerous hours of specialized training. During his career with the agency he has received several tactical and combat medals, awards and accolades. Captain Smith is a native of Pittsburgh.
Captain Donald Smith and his wife Vicki Smith have been married for over 21 years. They have two children together, one daughter and one son.
