Jeff Luther, Director of Gov't Affairs & Media Relations
Director Jeff Luther, a native of Indian River County, began his career in law enforcement in 1973 as a Dispatcher. In 1975, he enrolled into the Law Enforcement Academy to become a Deputy Sheriff with our agency. Deputy Luther worked numerous years in Road Patrol before he was assigned as the Sergeant of the Special Operations Section. He has been a Hunter Education Instructor since 1980 and has taught thousands of children and adults to handle firearms properly.
Numerous security courses assisted him on providing high level security for notables such as Lt. Col. Oliver North and Prince Charles. He’s been an active participant on the Presidential Task Force (Designee of Operation Blue Lighting Strike Force) and has a productive long term working relationship with Customs and other state and federal agencies.
Director Luther is the spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office and the Indian River County Emergency Operation Center. This has given him the opportunity to open communications with various local and government agencies where he has been chosen to be on numerous boards. He also supervises the Public Safety Dispatch Unit, The Community Service Unit, the False Alarm Unit, the Victims Assistance Unit and the Reserve Deputies.
Director Luther’s wife Shelley works for the State Attorney’s Office. His son William Luther is employed by our agency as a Deputy Sheriff.
Director Luther has over thirty years of certified law enforcement experience and is dedicated to serving our community.
