Selby Strickland, Corrections Captain
Captain Selby Strickland joined the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office on July 29, 1991. He started his career as a Corrections Deputy with assignments as a Security and Booking Deputy. Captain Strickland was promoted to Sergeant on October 1998. In January 2002, he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant. In this position he was a Watch Commander on various shifts. In July 2007, he was promoted to Deputy Division Commander (1st Lieutenant) and in January 2009, was promoted to Captain. Captain Strickland is responsible for overseeing the Administrative, Security Operations and activities for the entire Corrections Facility.
Additional supervisory duties over the years have included FTO Program Supervisory, DUI Program Supervisor, and Key Control Supervisor.
In April 1992, Captain Strickland was a founding member of the Corrections Emergency Response Team. In recent years he served as Team Commander and led his team to being awarded many awards at various prestigious tactical competitions that were attended over a five year span.
