Step 1: Decide if on line reporting is for you

Before making a report, make sure the following is true:  

  • Incident is not occurring at the present time
  • This incident occurred within Indian River County
  • There is no physical evidence at the scene
  • The incident did not involve the theft, use or display of a firearm
  • You have a valid e-mail address and access to the internet
  • Your case involves on of the following
    • Lost property, such as cell phones and vehicle license tags.
    • Theft of vehicle parts, including license plates and/or decals
    • Theft of property other than firearm or explosive devise or any material that could be a danger to the public.
    • Burglary from an automobile. If the vehicle is stolen, call 9-1-1 immediately.
    • Criminal Mischief, Vandalism or Accidental Damage to Property or Unattended Vehicles.
    • Information Reports such as violations of injunction orders or other violations of court orders, not involving any type of physical violence

Step 2: Ready to File an Online Report?

Make sure you have all the information you need to submit your report, such as:

  • When did it happen (Date and time or between what dates; in which month and year)
  • Where did it happen (address, location or intersection)
  • The incident did not involve the theft, use or display of a firearm
  • Who is reporting and who owns the property (name, date of birth or age, sex and race)
  • What was lost, stolen or damaged (make, model, serial numbers, descriptions and estimated value of loss or damage)
  • Identifiable persons who you suspect may have committed a criminal act or other parties involved in civil incidents.
    • You must have the first and last name, sex, race and date of birth to include them in the Suspect portion of the report.
    • You must state why they are suspect or how they are involved.
  • When you do not have all required suspect information indicated above, please include what information you do have in the Incident description.

Next, turn off your pop up blocking software. Fill in the information as prompted by the online reporting program.

Step 3: What to expect after you file your report

  • You will see the words: "Your report has been submitted". This means your online report has been received by the Indian River County Sheriff's for review and is pending approval.
  • Your report will automatically be assigned a temporary report number. You will be able to immediately print a copy of your report for your records.
  • If you have any questions or concerns about your report, contact our Central Records Section by email at requestreports@ircsheriff.org or call (772) 978-6219. Central Records is staffed between 8AM and 5PM on normal business days.
  • All submitted reports will be reviewed. Upon review, you may be contacted if further information is needed.
  • Once your report has been approved, an Indian River County Sheriff's Office case number will be assigned and a copy of the official report will be e-mailed to you. This will occur within 3 business days.

Note: Filing a false police report is a crime under Florida State Statute 817.49
